I guess it’s good to know people care, at least!
I’ve had so many emails asking me when my novel Jillian’s Gold is actually going to be available that I’ve decided I should post an update as to my publishing timeline.
The proof copy of Jillian’s Gold came back from CreateSpace with serious margin issues, because I had forgotten that books over 400 pages need a wider gutter margin (at least when published through CreateSpace — more later). Although the book is only 130,000 words, it has an abnormally high page count due to the fact that it is a series of diary entries, journal entries, and personal letters, interspersed with narrative chapters. Since the diary and journal entries, along with the letters, only average two or three pages each, the page count goes up accordingly.
The problem is that the deeper gutter, given the same trim size, would lead to reflowing the text block, creating scores of new widows for me to creatively edit out, and I just don’t want to do that. I have found another publisher, where the gutter can remain the same width, and Jillian’s Gold will be published, I promise.
In the meantime, I have finished a substantial rewrite of the first novel I wrote, Stubbs and Bernadette, and it will be coming out from CreateSpace within a couple of weeks. I’ll get a page for it up on this blog as soon as I can.
