Error o’ The Day: Here, Here!

Maybe it’s just me, but this seems to be all over the internet lately.
The phrase is “Hear, hear!” It comes from “Hear ye, hear ye!” or “Hear him, hear him!” and is a reference to “I hear what you’re saying, and I agree.” Think of it as an older way of saying “I heard that!” as a signal of agreeing with someone.
The construction “Here, here!” may have arisen as a reference to “Here’s to that!” representing a virtual toast of agreement.
